You have windows 10 installed on your computer. You don’t care much about security and have guest access enabled on your server. You can access anything on the server you’ve shared without bothering to enter username / password. Today, you came to office and find out that everyone can access shared folders on server except you.
Microsoft in its infinite wisdom has disabled SMB2 guest access on the windows 10 falls creators update. Guest access in SMB2 disabled by default in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and Windows Server 2016 version 1709
Error Message: On trying to access server using guest credentials you get the below error.
“You can’t access this shared folder because your organization’s security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your PC from unsafe or malicious devices on the network.”
If you want to enable insecure guest access, you can configure the following Group Policy settings:
Computer configuration\administrative templates\network\Lanman Workstation
“Enable insecure guest logons”
Note: By enabling insecure guest logons, this setting reduces the security of Windows clients.
